SPACE WITHIN A SPACE -
This photograph is inside a catholic church. This area serves a a large meeting room, an altar (at the back) and individual study and small meeting tables and chairs at the right. The spaces within this space are divided vertically and repetitively by the large, square columns.
This type of space is very common. Each space is clearly defined, but not always seen from its connected space. This solution is an outdoor space adjacent to a building. This additive space is joined by a doorway. If you are in one of these spaces, you may not know the other one exists.
CENTRALIZED ORGANIZATION-
The term "centered" applies. It is stable and unified. This type of space has an obvious central space with secondary spaces which may or may not be equal in some ways. What they all have in common is the central space.
CLUSTERED ORGANIZATION:
The building pictured here was built in a clustered formation. Each part of the building exterior has similar traits, particularly the roof elements. There is no certain central focus, yet there is a pattern going on here. The significance of this building seems to be its corner type focus. It is also interesting to note that the building outline somewhat follows the topography of the land.
This photograph shows spaces which are related by a 3-D grid pattern. It has regularity and continuity, though there is some variety from side to side as we are viewing it. This grid has several perpendicular and parallel lines at consistent intervals within the building so that you have several cubes stacked on the right and a continuous staircase with duplicate horizontal and angular lines on the left.
